AIUsageMonitor
Desktop quota and system telemetry display powered by ESP32 and Python
Problem & Context
Tracking multi-account AI subscription quotas (session allowances and weekly reset countdowns) across diverse developer tools interrupts coding workflows. Developers need immediate, at-a-glance visibility without opening browser consoles or polling provider APIs.
Contribution & Role
Built an always-visible hardware desktop monitor using an ESP32 touchscreen display and a local Python collector service. Created Scene Studio for procedural graphic scenes and display management.
Technical Architecture & Implementation
Tested baseline on ESP32-2432S024C (2.4-inch ILI9341 240x320 TFT in landscape, CST820 capacitive touch). The Python service aggregates locally recorded usage from T3 status caches, Claude/Codex transcripts, and OpenCode history, transmitting compact JSON over USB serial. Firmware renders concentric quota rings, countdowns, and a Task Manager-style System page (CPU, RAM, GPU, disk, network via psutil). Documentation renders are native framebuffer screen captures, not hardware photography. Optional scene pack uses verified CC0 artwork by Luis Zuno / Ansimuz with strict licensing separation.
Technologies & Tools
Current Status
v1.14.1 is available as public open source. Subscription readings depend on what local tools have recorded; this is not a universal provider usage API.
